To promote online sales, Google has designed special Shopping ads and a special Google Merchant Center platform. Products can be displayed all over the internet where potential customers can see what you are selling.
Before clicking on the ad, the user receives much more information about the product compared to a standard text ad in the search results.
More than half a million online businesses use Google Merchant Center.
How to use Google Merchant Center?
In order for your offer to be visible on Google, it needs to create Google Merchant Center account. After you create an account, you need to add products. You can do this manually by uploading an Excel spreadsheet or automatically if you have Shopppy or a similar larger eCommerce platform. After that, the products appear for free across Google apps like Maps, YouTube, Search and more. When someone clicks on a product, Google sends them to the product page on your site.
Google Merchant Center is completely free, and if you want, you can opt for paid ads - Google Shopping Ads.
Google Shopping ads
Google Shopping ads use product data from Merchant Center, not keywords, to decide how and where to show ads. Before you can run a Shopping campaign, you need to link your Merchant Center account to your Google Ads account.
Ads may appear:
- above and next to Google search results,
- In the Shopping tab on Google Search,
- On the sites of Google's search partners
As with other types of Google ads, the advantage is that you only pay when someone clicks and visits your site.
