Printed material is used less and less for marketing purposes and the digital world has long taken over. However, one of the formats that has survived in printed form is flyers. Just look at your mailbox and you'll understand why we make this claim.

How to design a flyer

In this text, we will look at why flyers should be one of the elements of a marketing strategy and how to design an attention-grabbing flyer.

The fact is that flyers are not as popular as they used to be, if we look at the fact that there are adequate replacements in the digital world (landing page, social networks, etc.). However, this does not mean that they are not equally effective.

Why do we claim this?

Nowadays, people are more and more careful about the information they receive via e-mail or some other type of online advertising, so many go unnoticed.

Apart from the fact that this type of caution does not exist with printed material, flyers also have the advantage of conveying an important message to consumers where they are.

Flyers should be distributed where the audience you want to address will be concentrated. For example, if you want to advertise a new food product, you will distribute flyers in the market or if you open a new store, you will distribute flyers around the location.

Simply put, as with everything else, you will place information where the audience will be open to hearing it.

Flyer format

Flyer design should start with the format or dimension.

The most cost-effective for printing is to use some of the standardized formats A4, A5, A6, etc.

Apart from the fact that you will, of course, take care of the budget, the choice should also depend on the amount of information you will place. In order to save space, you should definitely avoid suppressing the content, ie the size of text, images, illustrations or empty space that you will use during the design.

Keep in mind that, as always, the most important thing is to attract consumers' attention, because otherwise they will quickly lose interest, no matter how useful the information is for them.

One of the first steps is to have a clear, legible and easily visible title.

Think so that you put yourself in the role of the user and what would attract your attention with the title. You can define it in the form of a question, a simple phrase or sentence, or even as a single word, especially if it is a "Sale", "Action", "New" and the like.

After a good and "catchy" title, create the content so that you respect the visual hierarchy, that is, to make it interesting for consumers, but also easy to follow the flow of information.

One of the most common mistakes that is made is the need to put as much information (text, images, graphics or illustrations) on a flyer, which should almost as a rule be something concise.

That is why it is necessary to find a balance and understand it as one of the important steps in the design process.

 Focus on key information

Make sure you have large enough margins and empty space between the elements. Keep images and text proportionate and balanced and get rid of all excess information in time.

Other tips for designing flyers

O colors i typography we have already talked about previous topics, but it is necessary for a flyer to know that they should be in line with the brand, product or service you want to promote. For example, you will not use some of the dark colors and business fonts for the children's playroom, just as you will not use some flashy colors and cheerful fonts for, say, consulting services.

Include call to action in flyer design. Whether you want your audience to visit one of the stores or websites, attend a concert or seminar or simply contact you, try to emphasize it on the flyer. Using QR codes, which take up little space and lead, for example, to websites where consumers can find more detailed information, can help you a lot.

Keep in mind that the flyer should first of all convey information and that it is not necessary to make a revolutionary design solution, even if it is always a plus for your brand. Therefore, especially if you are limited in time, you can use some of the already existing templates on the Internet, ideas with Pinterest, or redesigned and refined flyer solutions that caught your attention.

Finally, once you have completed the design of the flyer, in addition to preparing for printing, consider whether it is necessary to make additional corrections in size or format in order to use it as a post on social networks or a banner. This way you can reach a wider audience than the basic one you intended it for.
