Have you ever wondered if Google uses SEO tool results for ranking? We wanted to find out if the results of certain SEO tools really have an impact when it comes to Google rankings.


Does Google use the results of SEO tools to rank?

The answer to this question was given by John Muller from Google in one of the last episodes of "Ask Googlebot". In short, the answer is NO, DO NOT USE IT!

Mueller stated that Google does not consider website authority or spam results from external SEO tools when deciding where to rank a website in search results. Google's algorithms and evaluations are important for search rankings, not the ratings of other tools (however popular, quality, or used in the SEO industry they may be). Good website design and architecture, and above all quality content  which adequately responds to inquiries and the intention of the user, are the most important factors when it comes to ranking.


So does this mean that these tools are not useful?

Although Google does not take into account the results of other SEO tools, Mueller notes that these results can provide useful advice about your site regarding best SEO practices and how to try to rank your content better.

The results of these tools offer additional data beyond what Google provides about how well sites are optimized for search engines.

"Transparently calculated results can be useful to assess the status of your website or to indicate real problems. They could help with the next steps or maybe even qualify the work that was done." says Mueller.

Mueller emphasized understanding the mechanics of the scoring system as it can help determine the tool's relevance to your needs.


Google example: Chrome Lighthouse

Mueller mentioned Google's Chrome Lighthouse tool as a useful tool that doesn't directly affect rankings. Lighthouse generates website performance scores, but Google does not use them to rank websites in search results.

However, Mueller explained that Lighthouse's performance results might be of use to you:

"The score is transparently created based on different tests, which you can view. With the overall score, you can estimate how well your website performs on those tests."

Although Google does not use the results of third-party SEO tools to determine search rankings, Mueller acknowledges that these tools are useful. Their results give you an idea of ​​how your site is doing, highlight potential issues to address, and help gauge the success of previous SEO work. His parting advice is to understand the scoring system of these tools and use the tools as a way to improve performance and user experience, not as a direct tactic to increase your search rankings.
